Changing my Study Program
Since I was in my first year of High School, I
always thought how it would be to study in a University; The classes, the
classmates, the teachers, the infrastructure, etc. Now that I am in my second
year of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, I must say it is not how I thought it would
be, and not in the bad way. I obviously think that there are some specifics
topics that it would be nice to change, but, generally speaking, I think is not
completely bad.
Regarding the subjects, most of them are
related to chemistry: the basis and foundation of pharmacy and pharmacology. We
have some subjects affined to mathematics and physics. And the other majority
is related to Biology.
I think this University is not much advanced in
the teaching methods. We still have the method it was used since centuries.
There is a professor who speaks about a topic, and we take notes. I would like
they implement a new method, a dynamic one.
I really don’t understand why the subjects related
to Mathematics (Calculus Introduction, Integral and Differential Calculus, and Statistics)
are so complicated. I mean, I recognize the fact we need mathematics at some
point, especially in Physical Chemistry, but there is no need to make it so complex.
The same thing happens when it comes to Physics.
In terms of infrastructure, there are others
Universities with better equipment than this, but I think this University is
well equipped considering the fact that it is a Public place. Despite that, I
think there is necessary we could have a dining room. This is the major problem
here
In regard to the use of technology, I think
this is the most important subject the University of Chile could get better.
There are few computers to use, and the library is very small.
